At wine fairs, you often spend the whole day tasting. If I like the wine, I take a bottle (or more) back to the Netherlands. The last few months I collected 29 new finds from Portugal and Spain. Real discoveries in my opinion, but I like to get a second opinion.
On a beautiful Thursday morning, I travelled with my bottles to one of the greatest wine experts in the Netherlands. That turned into a morning of hard work. Together, we tasted all the wines again and gave them a qualification. Always an exciting moment. Do I still stand by my assessment from back then? After a lot of tasting, your taste sometimes lets you down at a wine fair. Fortunately, the test turned out well. Some of the wines even scored above expectations. Love at first sight turned out to be true love in these cases!
Next week, I will meet some of these special winemakers for the second time, during the Barcelona Wine Week. With a nice tasting report under my arm. Hopefully, after that, they can be found on the Dutch market soon!
